The 2018 SAPOA Property Journalism Awards for Excellence are now open for submission
Young Property Journalist of the Year added as an additional category.
The South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) has once again partnered with Cushman & Wakefield Excellerate for the 2018 SAPOA Journalism Awards for Excellence. The awards recognise and honour South African property journalists who have made a noteworthy contribution to the commercial and industrial property industry through quality media coverage of the property industry.
Submissions for the awards open today and will be judged in four main categories, namely Property News Journalist of the year, Property Feature Journalist of the Year, Property Publication of the Year and Property News Website of the Year.
SAPOA is also proud to announce the inclusion of an additional category, Young Property Journalist of the Year, which will be presented for the best entry by a talented and aspiring young journalist with three years or less experience. According to SAPOA Chairperson of the Journalism Awards Committee, Brian Azizollahoff, the inclusion of this award will recognize the efforts of aspirant journalists in newsrooms. “We believe that it will open doors for a whole new set of upcoming property journalists to enter and be recognised for their work,” he says.
Entries will be judged based on set criteria per category, which includes content relevance and value to the property industry, accuracy of researched information, analysis of topic covered, style of writing and so forth.
“Smart, fair, independent property journalism is essential in providing an accurate view of the sector and enable citizens to make informed judgements on the issues of the day. Journalists who have made a noteworthy contribution to these ideals should be recognised and celebrated for their efforts. We hope that the recognition from these awards will serve to motivate, inspire - and retain - the best journalists in the profession,” says, Neil Gopal, SAPOA Chief Executive Officer.
Entries close on Tuesday 3 April 2018 and nominees and winners will be announced at the SAPOA Convention & Property Exhibition, taking place from 19-21 June 2018 at the Durban International Convention Centre.
