Membership Declaration

SAPOA's membership increased by 50% from 2005 to 2011. Membership services have not been adequately aligned to suit this growth and as such, over the period, all members obtain the same services regardless of the fees they pay. Due to the proliferation of membership categories, SAPOA has a marketing approach which is based on promoting all services to all members regardless of their company size or fee contribution.

Whilst this strategy may work for some organisations, the one size fits all practice is highly inefficient and inappropriate for SAPOA. We currently measure the value of our member relationships by fee revenue and support at Convention and educational courses. Retention and development of existing members should be a key priority particularly amongst Property Owners, Asset managers, Property Managers, Developers and Professionals. Our current membership campaign and allocation of resources often treat membership as an undifferentiated whole. A strategic approach to membership that differentiates among member relationships in order to prioritise efforts, will in time construct a clear rationale for members to invest in SAPOA.

The goal is to move away from a portfolio of membership categories and to start building a portfolio of relationships, and invest proportionately in relationships that generate the most value. By packaging member services per member category we will be able to measure membership over a lifetime value rather than per transaction. A one size fits all practice is highly inefficient and inappropriate for SAPOA. Our current membership campaign and allocation of resources often treat membership as an undifferentiated whole.
