Gauteng Planning and Development Act No 3 of 2003

The above act was published in the Provincial Gazette on the 17th October 2003.

The Act, when it comes into operation, will inter alia repeal the Town Planning and Townships Ordinance No 15 of 1986, the Division of Land Ordinance No 20 of 1986 and the Gauteng Removal of Restrictions Act, No 3 of 1996. The Township Board will be replaced by a Provincial Planning Tribunal and an Appeal Tribunal. The Development Facilitation Act 1995 (DFA) remains in force for the time being, until repealed by the envisaged national Land Use Management Act. The Regulations are in the process of being prepared. The lecturers will deal with the subject matter of the act only.

Because of its importance to the property industry and in particular to property developers, the planning and legal professionals, SAPOA is arranging a morning seminar for the 4th February 2004. Leading the discussions will be Les Oakenfell, town planner and intimately involved in drafting the Act and Gert Hugo, attorney and deputy chair of the Gauteng Townships Board. Gert was also involved in the drafting of the Act and was the main author of the SAPOA submissions.

Please diarise this very important date. Registration forms will be dispatched in the first week of January 2004.
