SAPOA, or the South African Property Owners Association, is the representative body and official voice of the commercial and industrial property industry in South Africa.

The South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) was established in 1966 by the leading and large property investment organizations to bring together all role players in the commercial property field and create a powerful platform for Property Investors. SAPOA, the Voice of Commercial Property, is recognized as the representative body and official voice of the commercial and industrial property industry in South Africa, with a combined portfolio in excess of R 500 billion. SAPOAmembers control approximately 90% of all commercial and industrial property in South Africa.

We are held in very high esteem by the relevant sectors of government and are therefore consulted on all matters pertaining to the property industry. SAPOA also enjoys representation on key South African bodies, which are key to the country's property development.

Massmart Complaint - Tribunal Decision
Posted: 13th September 2016

On 11 June 2015, Massmart referred its complaint against Shoprite, Pick 'n Pay and Spar to the Competition Tribunal following the Commission's decision to 'non-refer' the matter due to the Grocery Retail Sector Market Inquiry.

The interlocutory applications (exceptions and stay application) were heard by the Competition Tribunal on 26 and 27 July 2016.

On 1 September, the Tribunal published its decision and reasons on the interlocutory applications.

SAPOA launched its new company logo at the Convention in June, as part of the ongoing evolution of our company’s brand.


Our business has grown and evolved over the last 50 years, and we have refreshed our logo to reflect who we are today and to symbolise our dynamic future. We are very proud of our rich history, as the voice of the commercial property industry, and our logo signifies this.
